Tourism Surge in Argentina During Carnival Holidays

Argentina records record-high hotel occupancy during Carnival holidays. In Buenos Aires province, occupancy reaches 83%, while in some regions like Jujuy, it peaks at 95%. Airlines and ferry companies also report a significant increase in passenger flow, indicating a strong recovery in the tourism sector after the summer season.


Tourism Surge in Argentina During Carnival Holidays

The long weekend once again boosted domestic tourism in Argentina, with a significant flow of travelers heading to the Atlantic coast, mountain ranges, and cultural destinations across the country. Preliminary data from hotel occupancy and road traffic indicate that routes to the main Buenos Aires resorts experienced peak circulation and high occupancy rates, reflecting a strong recovery in the sector after the summer high season. According to a survey conducted by the National Secretariat of Tourism and Environment and the Argentine Tourism Chamber's Argentine Tourism Observatory, out of a total of 121 localities and tourist areas surveyed, 31% exceeded 90% occupancy rates in different accommodation categories. In the province of Buenos Aires, coastal tourist centers once again filled their hotel and lodging vacancies. Five other destinations in the province exceed 95%, and Gualeguaychú registers 86%.

In several locations, reservation levels exceed 98%. In the case of the City of Buenos Aires, hundreds of tourists from within the country chose it as a destination, and it has an 83% reservation rate, which is the best record for Carnival holidays in the last 5 years. The province of Salta registers 70%, with peaks reaching 85% in destinations like Cafayate and Rosario de la Frontera, Chicoana with 80%, and Campo Quijano with 79%. On the other hand, on the occasion of the National Chaya Festival, the city of La Rioja registers 90% hotel reservations, and a significant influx of visitors is expected during the celebration days. In the particular case of the province of Córdoba, it will receive some 370,000 arrivals throughout the long weekend, which would imply a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Good reservation levels were also verified in localities such as Villa Pehuenia and Villa Traful with 80%, Villa La Angostura with 77%, and San Martín de los Andes with 70%. Lastly, in the Cuyo region, high reservation levels were reported in Mendoza localities such as Potrerillos, Uspallata, and Cacheuta above 80%. At the provincial level, Corrientes has 81%. In the North, the Jujuy localities of the Quebrada and Valleys regions have reservation peaks of 95% and 80%, respectively. In the case of San Luis, the reservation level reaches 81%, with numerous localities exceeding 80%.

Regarding air transport, Aerolíneas Argentinas reported that it will mobilize 220,000 passengers. The arrival of 119,000 visitors is expected. In the Patagonia region, the province of Tierra del Fuego stands out for having reservations at around 90% in higher-category hotels and full occupancy in temporary tourist accommodations. Reservation levels are around 85%, with Cosquín Rock being the most popular event in the Punilla area. Cities like Mar del Plata, one of the most traditional destinations, maintained occupancy levels above 75% during the holiday days, consolidating itself as one of the most chosen points by families and groups of friends. On the other hand, the Litoral is especially highlighted for its Carnival tradition, with the Entre Ríos localities of Gualeguay, Puerto General Belgrano, Santa Elena, and Santa Ana at 100% reservations. In addition, Jet Smart stands out, which will operate more than 450 flights and 93,000 seats, and Flybondi, with a 90% occupancy rate on its flights. Buquebus, for its part, indicated that it has already sold 27% more tickets from Uruguay to Argentina during this Carnival weekend compared to the same weekend last year.
