Neuquén Government Fires Ex-Governor's Son for Systematic Absences

The government of the Argentine province of Neuquén fired Nicolás Evaristo Salvatori, son of a former governor, after an investigation proved he systematically clocked in and immediately left without performing his duties. Authorities have implemented new control systems to combat such abuses.

Videos from security cameras and photographs proved decisive: they show Salvatori clocking in and leaving in less than half a minute. According to information from the Argentine News Agency, the administrative investigation began on June 12, 2025, to determine if the employee had been unjustifiably and continuously absent and if he was clocking in only to leave without performing his duties, a situation that was proven in the file. Auditors established that the absences occurred between July 1, 2020, and June 12, 2025, a period during which he allegedly abandoned his post and caused financial harm to the province. In this context, the administration implemented fingerprint-based entry and exit control systems to discourage irregularities that were common knowledge in the province. Salvatori argued that he was not assigned any functions, that his right to equality under the law was violated, and that he was a victim of supposed illegitimate persecution. However, the Provincial Public Administration's Disciplinary Board concluded that 'from the agent's own statements during the investigation, it is proven that during the period investigated, the agent did not provide services, that is, he did not work, beyond having clocked in or registered on some occasions.' His dismissal was preceded by a suspension without pay. Since Figueroa took office in December 2023, a 'zero tolerance' policy towards corruption and irregular practices has been in effect in Neuquén. The decision was made following an administrative investigation. The provincial administration led by Rolando Figueroa (La Neuquinidad) dismissed the agent, who was a permanent employee. Buenos Aires, February 14 (NA) – The government of Neuquén fired Nicolás Evaristo Salvatori, son of former Governor Pedro Salvatori, after confirming that he was clocking in at the Ministry of Energy and leaving without working. Among the evidence are five film recordings from May 26, 27, 28, and June 2 and 4, 2025, where he is seen clocking in and leaving. A report incorporated into the investigation indicated that no valid attendances or tasks performed by Salvatori were recorded between June 10, 2020, and September 11, 2025. The lawyer had joined the civil service in 1987.
