The national government has launched the new Focused Energy Subsidies (SEF) system, which covers electricity, natural gas, propane, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cylinders. For the implementation of this scheme, the Focused Energy Subsidies Registry (ReSEF) was created, which will use the current information from the Energy Subsidies Access Registry (RASE). Users will be able to update their data and family composition through digital forms or in person at the offices of the National Social Security Administration (ANSES). The measure was officialized through Resolution 13/2026 of the Secretariat of Energy, published this Friday in the Official Gazette. This norm instructs the Undersecretariat of Energy Transition and Planning to assume the operational management of the beneficiary registry and the registration and review mechanisms. The new system establishes consumption blocks for electricity. Generally, the subsidized limit will be 300 kWh for summer months (December, January, February) and winter months (May to August), and 150 kWh for the rest of the year. However, the regulations contemplate differential consumption blocks for warm and very warm zones, with caps of up to 370 kWh and 550 kWh respectively during the summer months. As for gas, the consumption blocks established in previous regulations are maintained, including users of propane diluted by networks. On the other hand, the Secretariat of Energy set a deadline of six months to complete the migration of beneficiaries from the Hogar program (cylinders) to the new system of focused subsidies. The impact of this system will be reflected in users' bills once the new wholesale energy prices are published. Likewise, the implementation of the SEF implies the cessation of the Federal Social Gas Tariff that previously applied.
Argentina launches new focused energy subsidies system
Argentina's government has introduced a new system of focused energy subsidies (SEF) to replace existing electricity and gas tariffs. The system implements differentiated consumption blocks based on region and season. Users will need to update their information in a new registry.
