Argentine Horse Exports Increase by 4%

The export of live horses increased by 4% in the first eleven months of 2025, totaling US$ 20.7 million, according to the Secretariat of Agriculture. The report received by the Argentine News Agency specified that 2,905 horses were sold between January and November of last year. The horses were exported to 38 destinations, according to data from the National Directorate of Livestock based on the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). During this period, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates accounted for over 57% of the exported value, reflecting the strong international demand for Argentine horses linked to polo, racing, and equestrian sports. In some months of the year, such as March, August, September, and November, significant increases in FOB value were recorded, explained by specific operations involving high-value individual animals, the secretariat explained. In this regard, it is important to highlight that the export of live horses does not follow the logic of a commodity, as its price depends on individual characteristics such as genetics, sporting background, level of training/competition, and productive destination. According to the Argentine Stud Book, in the case of Thoroughbreds for racing, 211 specimens were sold to 13 countries in 2025, representing nearly 10% of the volume and a third of the destinations. Uruguay, with 113 horses, was the most important destination for Thoroughbreds for racing.
