VTV fees rise in Buenos Aires

The Buenos Aires Province Transport Ministry announced a VTV fee increase effective January 2026, raising tariffs for light and heavy vehicles and pledging a cut in vehicle registration costs.

The Ministry of Transport of Buenos Aires Province announced a hike in the cost of the Technical Vehicle Verification (VTV), which will take effect from mid‑January 2026. The basic tariff for vehicles up to 2,500 kg will rise to 97,057.65 Argentine pesos, while for heavier vehicles it will climb to 172,024.28 pesos. The increase of 21 % will be calculated as 7 % of the operator’s base salary, in line with the collective agreement between concession companies and the SMATA union.

"The wave of tariff hikes has caused frustration among many car owners," said the transport minister.

Officials explained that the increase is linked to the mechanism set out in the service concession contract and is aimed at reducing long‑term fiscal pressure.

At the same time, authorities pledged to cut the nominal tariff on vehicle registrations, which should benefit about 75 % of taxpayers.
