The Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA) has set the new interest rate value that non-financial companies issuing credit and purchase cards may apply in their operations. Through Communication “B” 13096/2025, published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, the interest rate for unsecured personal loans in the national currency for these entities was set at 72.56%. The new value of the financial system's interest rate will serve as a cap for credit card operations, corresponding to December 2025 data and will come into effect for the January 2026 billing cycle. This change affecting non-bank cards is based on point 2.1.2 of the regulation on “Interest rates in credit operations,” which uses the average interest rate of the financial system for unsecured personal loans as a reference. In this way, the BCRA maintains control over the cost of consumer financing offered by non-bank entities (such as retail chains or purchase card issuers).
