Fuel Costs in Argentina Reach Nine-Year Low

An INECO-UADE report shows that the cost of filling a car in Argentina is at its lowest in nearly a decade. However, fuel accessibility is somewhat offset by the loss of wage purchasing power.

Fuel Costs in Argentina Reach Nine-Year Low

The Argentine Institute of Economics (INECO) of the Argentine University of the Enterprise (UADE) has released a report analyzing the cost of fuel and the expense of filling a full tank of an average vehicle in Argentina. The analysis indicates that families' access to fuel depends not only on fuel prices but also on wage levels. As of December 2025, both real fuel prices and their relative weight in salaries are below the average for the last eight years. The cost to fill a tank is at its lowest in nine years, making this one of the most favorable periods for consumers in the last decade. However, this improved accessibility is partially offset by the recent loss of purchasing power of wages. Geographically, there are significant price differences between provinces, explained by local tax structures, operational costs, and logistical factors. For example, in the province of Buenos Aires, the price of super gasoline ranges from 1,400 to 1,840 pesos per liter, showing a substantial difference in fuel accessibility even within the same province. The report concludes that while access to fuel is in the most favorable situation in the last decade, it is conditioned by the loss of purchasing power of incomes.
