Poverty in Argentina drops to 7-year low

Poverty in Argentina fell to 27.5% in the third quarter of 2025, according to a report from the Ministry of Human Capital based on data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). The projection was made by the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies (CNCPS), as reported by the Argentine News Agency. This represents an annual decrease of 10.8 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2024. The most striking aspect is that this indicator has decreased by 27.3 percentage points since the beginning of President Javier Milei's administration, largely due to the fall in the cost of living. The 27.5% figure is the lowest level of poverty since mid-2018. The key to the decline lies in the slowdown of inflation. The cost of living dropped from 211% in 2023 to 117% in 2024, and it is estimated that by the end of this year it will be around 30%. According to official data, extreme poverty also decreased to 5.4%, a reduction of 3.8 percentage points compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

"Since the beginning of this administration, extreme poverty has decreased by 14.8 percentage points. This means that millions of people have emerged from extreme poverty," highlighted the Ministry of Human Capital.
