Argentina Extends Import Benefits for Steel Project SIDERSA

The Argentine government has extended the import tariff exemption for SIDERSA for its long steel project under the Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), through Resolution 535/2025 published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette. The regulation, analyzed by the Argentine News Agency, granted the request from the company SIDERSA ACERÍA S.D.E. to add nine new tariff lines to its list of imports with a customs exemption under the RIGI. The company had requested to add 17 new tariff lines to the list of exempt goods, but after analysis by the Undersecretariat of Industrial Policy, the government finally authorized the inclusion of six. Of these six new positions, five were approved exceptionally, as they were not originally classified as Capital Goods (BK) or Information Technology and Telecommunications Goods (BIT). However, the government's approval was possible because the company provided the necessary technical justification to demonstrate that they are essential and indispensable for the fulfillment and operation of the approved investment plan. This measure allows the multimillion-dollar 'Argentine Steel Project SIDERSA' to access all the necessary components for its launch and maintain the integrity of the original investment scheme. The Secretariat of Production Coordination, which temporarily exercises the powers of the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce, will communicate and notify this list change to the company and the Revenue and Customs Control Agency (ARCA) for the application of tax and customs incentives. SIDERSA S.A.'s investment project for its special purpose unit (VPU) in the province of Buenos Aires, with a theoretical production capacity of 360,000 tons per year (tpa) of long steel products, had been approved in July by the Ministry of Economy. By adhering to the RIGI, framed in the Law of Bases, the company obtained a key franchise: the exemption from tariffs and taxes for the import of capital goods and inputs necessary for the project.
