Buenos Aires Governor Inaugurates New Bridge to Combat Floods

Governor Axel Kicillof inaugurated the new Gogna bridge over the Luján River in the city of Luján, which is part of a project to widen the riverbed and improve the middle stretch of this important river. This strategic work is aimed at mitigating floods and improving the connection between the city center and the western neighborhoods. "This bridge is part of a much larger project, which is the result of the struggle of the people of Luján: a plan of intervention on the river that is going to change the living conditions of the entire region," Governor Kicillof emphasized. He also stated that "new gastronomic businesses are already being set up by the river: they are coming because with these works the river has ceased to be a threat and has become a place of rest and a tourist attraction." The bridge replaces the old crossing, whose pillars obstructed the flow of water and accumulated waste and branches during river floods, further complicating flooding in the region. The project required an investment of 3.217 billion pesos and is part of the "Master Plan for the Luján River Basin", aimed at improving drainage capacity and preventing flooding. The new concrete bridge is 76.5 meters long and 8.3 meters wide, featuring two lanes, sidewalks, storm drains, and LED lighting.
