The national government has allocated a quota of 50,000 electric and hybrid vehicles that will enter the country in 2026 without tariffs, which will cause a drop in prices. This was done through Resolution 513/2025 of the Secretariat of Industry, published today in the Official Gazette. The call includes fully electric vehicles (battery-only operation); hybrids (combustion engine and electric motor); mild hybrids (combustion engine and auxiliary electric motor), and plug-in hybrids (combustion engine and plug-in electric motor). “In total, 71 models from 32 different brands will enter the country. Of the 50,000 cars allocated, 19,280 will be for car manufacturers and 30,720 correspond to importers, who absorbed the units not requested by the automakers,” according to a statement received by the Argentine News Agency. The launch of the 2026 call is to allow applicants the necessary time for the manufacturing and shipment of the allocated units. Likewise, 9,856 remaining units from the 2025 quota will be allocated among the importers who presented applications for this call. These units will enter the country before January 31, 2026.
