Car Patenting in Argentina Sees Sharp Decline

In November, new car registrations in Argentina fell 3.6% year-on-year and over 30% compared to October. Despite this, the total for the first 11 months of the year showed a nearly 50% increase. The president of ACARA attributes this to fewer working days and expresses hope for better conditions in the coming year.

Car Patenting in Argentina Sees Sharp Decline

Buenos Aires, November 30 (NA) – Car patenting fell 3.6% year-on-year in November, reaching 34,905 units, and plummeted more than 30% monthly, according to the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA). The November decline compared to the same month of 2024 meant that 1,315 fewer vehicles were sold than the 36,220 registered a year ago. In the monthly comparison, there was a 33.2% drop, as 51,982 vehicles had been patented in October. Thus, in the eleven accumulated months of the year, 587,666 units were patented, representing a 49.7% increase over the same period in 2024, when 392,450 vehicles were registered, as reported by the Argentine News Agency (NA). When analyzing November's performance, ACARA's president, Sebastián Beato, stated that "the nearly 35,000 units patented in November is a good number, let's remember that we had two fewer business days and that this month, along with December, are historically the lowest of the year." In the same vein, he highlighted the movement in dealerships by specifying that "it is worth saying that we continue to have good activity in our showrooms, a trend that does not seem to be stopping in the coming months." Looking ahead, Beato indicated that "we hope that progress will be made on the labor and tax issues mentioned, that we continue to have credit at increasingly convenient rates, something key to dynamize our sector, and that the wheel continues to turn in 2026, as it has been doing all year, so that we can continue to grow." Among the brands, Volkswagen led in the second-to-last month of the year with 5,063 units sold, displacing Toyota to second place (4,474). They were followed by Fiat (3,654), Renault (3,468), Ford (3,183), Chevrolet (2,986), Peugeot (2,678), Citroen (1,380), Jeep (1,206), and Baic (714). Regarding models, the lead in patentings for November was for the second consecutive month by the Toyota Hilux with 1,831 units, and second place went to the Peugeot 208 with 1,343 vehicles patented, and the podium was completed by the Volkswagen Tera with 1,327 registered units, which rose seven positions compared to October.
