Argentina and China Advance Joint Lithium Project

Salta's Government Minister Ricardo Villada met with Chinese company Tibet Summit Resources to discuss a lithium extraction project at Salar de Diablillos. The project involves a $500 million investment and aims to produce up to 30,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually. The meeting also explored opportunities for Salta's products to enter the Chinese market.

Argentina and China Advance Joint Lithium Project

Tibet Summit Resources is a large-scale mining company listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange that invests in and develops major mineral resource projects abroad. Its main operational assets are located in the Republic of Tajikistan in Central Asia and in the Republic of Argentina in South America. The company's main activity is the extraction, processing, and smelting of base metals, and through its parent company, it promotes projects for obtaining lithium salts from salt lakes. In Argentina, the company has a subsidiary, Potasio y Litio de Argentina (PLASA), which is developing a lithium extraction and production project at the Salar de Diablillos in Los Andes department. This project has its Environmental Impact Declaration and is currently in the investment and construction phase of its commercial plant. In its first stage, the company plans to produce 10,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually, with an estimated investment of 500 million dollars. Once at full capacity, the complex could produce up to 30,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate per year. Furthermore, the Salta Government Minister discussed the possibility of advancing strategic initiatives to allow the company to serve as an active link for Salta products to enter the Asian market. The company has committed to jointly evaluate this possibility with the Province, which, if realized, will continue to place Salta products on the world map. "We must take advantage of the ties and interest of various mining companies that want to invest in Salta, on the one hand providing legal security for their developments, and on the other hand, generating other actions that benefit other sectors of our economy," said Villada.
