Nine bus lines in the southern area of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area began an indefinite strike early Friday morning due to unpaid driver wages.
From the early hours of Friday, thousands of passengers were affected by the strike action taken by nine bus lines that cross the municipalities of Quilmes, Berazategui, and Florencio Varela in the southern Buenos Aires conurbation. These lines are 22, 148, 159, 219, 300, 372, 584, 603, and 619.
“It’s due to non-payment of wages,” MOQSA (Micro Ómnibus Quilmes SA) reported regarding the reason for the strike. Meanwhile, drivers of line 22 claimed they were not paid their salaries, while the company, also part of the MOQSA group, stated they had not received their subsidies.
In parallel, in Florencio Varela, the company El Nuevo Halcón informed that drivers are on strike demanding salary improvements.
The companies are maintaining communication with the authorities of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Labor, but no instance of mandatory conciliation or deadlines for resuming services have been reported yet.
This measure affected thousands of users who opted for combining trains, alternative bus lines, or transportation apps, although with delays and rising prices.
