Spanish businessman Juan José Retamero, whose company was in a legal dispute with the Argentine wine cooperative Fecovita, won a court case in Mendoza. This ruling, issued on October 27 by the Third Civil, Commercial, Mining and Tax Chamber of Mendoza, can serve as a precedent for future multi-million-dollar judicial decisions. Retamero emphasized that his is a family business, involving his wife María and their children. Previously, Fecovita and Retamero created a joint venture, Evisa, to export wine and grape must. However, in 2023, their partnership ended. Fecovita accused the Spaniard of failing to meet contractual volumes and prices, while Retamero claims the cooperative received $32 million and never delivered the paid-for goods. The businessman stated that the ruling sends a clear signal about the legal security for investors in Argentina, confirming that contractual commitments must be fulfilled. His company, Aisa, 100% owned by him and of Canadian origin, operates in Argentina, the USA, and Canada. Retamero stated that he has $1.5 billion to invest in mining, renewable energy, real estate, meat production, and fishing. He is also studying energy and oil projects in Vaca Muerta. His business path began in Spain, and then he moved to Asia, where he traded commodities. In 2015, he started operating in Argentina, first with the import and distribution of wine to China, and later with the Fecovita cooperative. In 2023, he bought the gold and silver mine Gualcamayo from the Colombian company Mineros. Thanks to his investment, the mine posted its first-ever positive financial result. He is also currently active in the fishing business in the provinces of San Juan and Chubut.
