Argentina's Government Announces Tender for National Road Renewal

Argentina's Government Announces Tender for National Road Renewal

The government of Javier Milei, through Minister of Economy Luis Caputo, announced the national and international public tender for the renewal of over 1,800 kilometers of national routes, which constitutes the second stage of the Federal Concessions Network.

The government launches a public tender to privatize new sections of highways and national roads.

"We are replacing a deficitary model with one that is transparent, competitive, and without Treasury subsidies," Caputo stated on his X (ex Twitter) account.

The project will benefit over 17 million Argentines living in the provinces of Buenos Aires and La Pampa, according to the 2022 Census data, as well as the agricultural, industrial, and tourist production of the region.

Key sections for the "meat and milk route"

The two new sections that will be managed by the private sector are:

South-Atlantic Tramo (1,325 km)

It includes National Route 3, a fundamental corridor for the livestock production of southern Buenos Aires province and for tourism towards the Atlantic Coast and Patagonia.

It also covers National Routes 205, 206, and the Riccheri, Newbery, and Ezeiza-Cañuelas highways, key for access and distribution in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area and the City of Buenos Aires for the area's dairy farms.

Pampa Tramo (547 km):

Along National Route 5, which connects Luján (Buenos Aires) with Santa Rosa (La Pampa).

This section is vital for the exit of agricultural and livestock production from the Humid Pampa and for connectivity with western Argentina.

Caputo highlighted that the objective is to have "a more modern road infrastructure, encouraging private investment while at the same time safeguarding the resources of Argentines".
