Argentina's Central Bank issued a silver coin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Maradona's 1986 goal. Gold coins for international sale were also announced.

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has launched a commemorative coin dedicated to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which pays tribute to former player Diego Armando Maradona. The coin launched by the financial institution is part of the FIFA 2026 World Cup Commemorative Coins International Program. On the upper arch it reads BANCO CENTRAL DE LA REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA and on the lower arch, COPA MUNDIAL DE LA FIFA 2026TM. The coin is made of 925 silver, has a milled edge, weighs 27 grams and has a diameter of 40 mm. The BCRA has already participated in previous editions: 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022. On its reverse, the coin will display the second Argentine goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, Maradona's "legendary play" that ended up being considered "the best goal in World Cup history". Its design, made by the BCRA's Treasury Strategic Planning Management - Numismatic Issues Sub-management, features a football passing through the coin "as an allegory of football passion", while on the upper arch the legend REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA is inscribed, and on the lower arch, COPA MUNDIAL DE LA FIFA 2026TM. On the reverse, the scheme of the 1986 goal is displayed, where the trajectory of the play can be seen, and in the exergue the year of minting 2025 is presented.
