Construction in Argentina: Mixed Perspectives

According to a recent report, 74% of companies involved in private construction do not foresee changes in their activity between April and June, while only 14% expect an increase. However, when analyzing the seasonally adjusted series, a decline of 4.1% is observed compared to February, suggesting that the momentum in the sector is still fragile.

Among the inputs that experienced the highest increases in year-on-year consumption are asphalt (66.5%) and gypsum boards (62.6%), with granite and limestone tiles being the only ones to decline (-4.7%). On the other hand, registered jobs in the private sector show signs of weakness, with a year-on-year decrease of 0.5% in February and a cumulative drop of 3.3% in the first two months.

Despite this mixed situation, business expectations are mostly stable, according to the qualitative survey by INDEC, indicating an uneven pace in the various segments of construction, possibly linked to the type of ongoing projects and cost factors.

Regarding building permits, the authorized area increased by 8.1% year-on-year in February and 4.7% in the two-month period. Regarding the public works segment, 24.3% of surveyed companies expect a rebound, mainly due to the reactivation of ongoing projects.

In March 2025, construction activity showed a year-on-year increase of 15.8%, according to INDEC data. This improvement was also reflected in the accumulation for the first quarter, with a 5.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
