Strategic companies and public agencies in Argentina, such as Aerolíneas Argentinas, AySA, and the former Telam, have suffered significant layoffs. For example, 1,347 layoffs were recorded at Banco Nación in a context where its privatization is planned, and cuts in the national railway system, such as at the state-owned railway operator and Belgrano Cargas y Logística.
The reduction of personnel has become evident in several agencies, such as the National Council for Coordination of Social Policies and the Gas Regulatory Entity. The case of the former Telam stands out, where an 80% cut took place, jeopardizing its existence.
In the educational and technological sector, significant layoffs have also been observed. Companies such as Educar SA, Public Content SE, Polo Tecnológico Constituyentes, among others, have suffered staff layoffs.
Regarding entities of the National Public Administration, cuts have been highlighted in agencies such as the Revenue and Customs Control Agency (ARCA), CONICET, ENACOM, INTI, SENASA, ANSES, and the National Disability Agency, among others.
The adjustment has also affected health-related organizations, such as the National Cancer Institute, the National Disability Agency, and the Laura Bonaparte Mental Health Hospital. In total, thousands of jobs have been eliminated in various sectors.
The impact of the personnel cuts has been felt in public companies, centralized, decentralized, and deconcentrated administration. The government has justified these measures as an economic saving for the public sector.
Many of the laid-off workers, with decades of experience in the public sector, are now seeking employment in the private sector, but they face a complicated labor market. Public sector unions have warned of more downsizing plans in the state, which could lead to more layoffs in the future.
Although the government has claimed that these measures are necessary to improve the efficiency of the state, criticism has arisen regarding how the layoffs have been carried out and the lack of opportunities for the affected workers.
