
Argentinian exports to Brazil suffered a significant decline in April, totaling USD 972 million, which represents a decrease of 20.0% compared to the previous year. This marks the second decline in exports after nearly a year of increases. This decrease is the steepest since February 2024.
In contrast, total imports rose by 11.0% year-on-year, reaching USD 2.568 billion in the same month. As a result, Argentina recorded a deficit in its bilateral trade balance with Brazil of USD 625 million in April, making it the ninth consecutive month with a deficit between the two countries. This deficit contrasts with a surplus of USD 116 million in the same month last year.
The automotive sector was the main driver of the increase in imports, with a year-on-year increase of 45.2% in April. Purchases of passenger automobiles surged by 164% year-on-year, reaching USD 385.5 million, while vehicles for the transport of goods experienced a growth of 343.0%.
On the other hand, Argentinian exports suffered a contraction of 20.0% compared to April 2024. In the accumulated first four months, exports had a decline of 0.7% year-on-year, despite a strong performance in the first two months of the year, with an accumulated increase of 28.2% in January and February.
In addition to the automotive sector, there was a considerable increase in imports of soybeans and electric energy, while imports of petroleum fuel oils, iron ore, and hollow tubes and profiles and accessories experienced sharp declines.
