Record Tourist Turnout in Argentina's Long Weekends

According to a report from the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), the most popular destinations among tourists so far in 2025 have been Mendoza, Córdoba, Bariloche, Iguazú, Neuquén, Salta, Ushuaia, and El Calafate. During the three long weekends recorded so far, 6,668,190 visitors have been counted, with accumulated spending reaching $1.7 trillion.

The report highlights that proximity tourism has been the main characteristic of this vacation period, with visitors spending less than usual, opting for shorter stays and choosing destinations with promotional offers. The average daily spending per traveler has been $82,100, with an average stay of 2.7 days and a total expenditure of approximately $221,670 per person throughout their trip.

During the last long weekend for Labor Day, 1,159,000 tourists traveled across different regions of Argentina, generating an estimated economic impact of $256.96 billion. This increase in tourist activity has been attributed to a change in consumption habits and choices motivated by the current economic situation.

In this context, several tourists decided to work on Friday, which affected the duration of their stays, being an atypical feature of this holiday. Aerolíneas Argentinas transported nearly 160,000 passengers within the country during these four days, with occupancy levels exceeding 80% on their domestic flights.

Comparing with previous years, there has been significant growth both in the number of tourists, which has increased by 26% compared to the same period in 2023, and in the estimated total spending, which has experienced a 42.6% increase in real terms. Despite a 10% decrease in the average duration of stays compared to 2018, rural tourism, getaways to intermediate cities, and trips to destinations with free activities or special discounts have performed notably well, according to CAME.
