YPF, the leading company in Argentina, has made a decisive decision: it will cease oil and gas production in conventional fields to focus solely on Vaca Muerta and other unconventional formations. This strategy is based on the solid annual revenue close to $20 billion and the profits achieved in 2024, which were around $4.654 billion.
Horacio Marín, president of YPF, has established commitments with several Asian countries for the acquisition of Argentine gas. Additionally, agreements have been signed with companies such as the Anglo-Dutch for the export of oil, with the aim of increasing daily production to 200,000 barrels by the end of the year.
Although 40% of YPF's income comes from conventional fields, the company plans to divest from operations in Brazil and Uruguay, retaining only Refinor in the north of the country. The company seeks to partner with other oil companies in gas export projects, like that of Shell, where they plan to sell fields in several provinces.
YPF's expansion is primarily focused on Vaca Muerta, where it plans to allocate between $3.2 billion and $3.3 billion. Despite maintaining a strong position in the energy market, the company is in negotiations to attract investments that will drive its growth and explore new strategic partnerships.
Participation in gas export projects and the expansion of its transportation capacity through initiatives like the expansion of Oldelval support YPF's vision of consolidating itself as one of the most important energy companies in the region.
