The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, made statements before the Congressional debate on the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) of the new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In an interview with A24, he mentioned that he considers the current situation atypical. He expressed that the amount of the agreement is not defined and that the final decision rests with the IMF Board.
Caputo stated that the main focus of economic management is to maintain a stable currency and continue with the process of disinflation. Furthermore, he highlighted that Argentina has already made the fiscal and monetary adjustments required by the IMF last year, which according to him implies a different situation compared to previous agreements.
Regarding the DNU presented by the government of Javier Milei, the minister informed that the technical negotiation is being carried out by the Executive. Caputo also mentioned that it is uncommon for the IMF to impose more orthodox measures than those applied by the recipient country, emphasizing the uniqueness of the current situation.
In summary, Caputo emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable currency and continuing with the process of disinflation as priorities of economic management, while awaiting the IMF Board's resolution regarding the new agreement.
