Cargo transport costs in Argentina rose by 1.62% in February, accumulating a 4.3% increase at the beginning of 2025. The analysis shows differences between sectors, highlighting growth in agriculture, energy, and mining.


Increase in Cargo Transport Costs

According to a report by the Argentine Federation of Business Entities in Cargo Transportation (FADEEAC), the costs of cargo transportation increased by 1.62% in February, reaching a total increase of 4.3% in the first two months of the current year. This data contrasts with the 2.62% increase recorded the previous month.

In the detailed analysis, it was identified that the increase in costs in cargo transportation during February was led by the Insurance category, which experienced a growth of 3.11%. Following insurance, there were Fuels (2.25%), Repairs (1.78%), Rolling Stock (1.67%), Personnel-Driving (1.50%), General Expenses (1.23%), and Tolls (0.5%). On the other hand, Lubricants, Tires, and Licenses maintained their costs without variations compared to the previous month, while Financial Costs experienced a decrease.

In the current context, FADEEAC points out that the cargo transportation sector faces marked differences between various economic activities, highlighting growth in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and mining, in contrast to the lower activity recorded in industry, consumption, and public construction.

The transportation cost index provided by FADEEAC consolidates as a fundamental tool for managing rates and strategically planning in an environment where credit expansion offers recovery expectations for the sector.

In the annual analysis, the report revealed that in the last 12 months, cargo transportation costs have increased by 48%, showing a significant deceleration compared to the records at the end of 2024 and 2023, when they stood at 84.9% and 248%, respectively.

In summary, during February, seven of the eleven categories analyzed experienced increases in their costs, reflecting the complexity of the current landscape facing the cargo transportation sector in Argentina.
