Electricity Rates Increase Approved in Argentina

The National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) approved a 1.7% increase in electricity rates that the distributors Edenor and Edesur must implement starting March 1, 2025. This measure responds to the update of wholesale energy costs and is part of the strategy to correct relative prices in the economy driven by the Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of Energy.

In the context of the energy emergency declared by Decrees 55/2023 and extended by Decree 1023/2024, and amid the review of energy subsidy schemes by the national government, this increase was established. The ENRE approved the new rate schedule for Edenor, detailing that the Seasonal Electricity Price will rise by 2.5%, while the Added Value of Distribution (VAD) will remain unchanged.

The agency determined that Edenor's bills must distinguish between the concepts of "National State Subsidy" and "Wholesale Electricity Market Cost." Additionally, the values for the Average Added Value of Distribution (VAD Medio) were set at $44,836 for Edenor and $39,310 for Edesur. Moreover, new prices for energy costs under poor conditions were indicated.

Regarding Edesur, the rate update was also set at 1.7%, according to Resolution 162/2025. The new rates will come into effect on March 1, 2025, and energy costs under adverse conditions for the next semester were detailed.

The current Interventor of the ENRE, Osvaldo Ernesto Rolando, former president of the Association of Electric Energy Distributors of the Argentine Republic (ADEERA), leads the supervision of this process. Rolando, an electrical engineer graduated from the National Technological University (UTN), took office in December 2024 and is responsible for coordinating with distribution and transport companies in the context of the national energy emergency.

ENRE also confirmed the continuation of discounts for users at Levels 2 and 3, as established by the Secretariat of Energy in previous resolutions.
