The 2025 Budget presented by President Javier Milei has had a significant impact on Argentine sports, with a drastic reduction in funds allocated to various areas of the sector. According to a report from the think tank Táctica, a laboratory for Argentine sports, the budget for sports activities will decrease by 56% in real terms compared to the year 2023, the last budget approved by the National Congress.
This reduction will negatively impact the training conditions of athletes, increase the gap with sports powers, and decrease the chances of winning medals in international competitions. Among the most affected programs is the Evita National Games, the most important formative sports event in the country, whose budget will be reduced by 65% after a cut in disciplines in the year 2023.
Additionally, there is a significant reduction of 87% in infrastructure works for clubs and a 77% decrease in investment in multi-sport facilities. According to the Táctica report, the Argentine sports system is distinguished by the relevance of community clubs, where 56% of sports practitioners in the country are or have been associated with a club.
The analysis of the budget for 2025 reveals a decrease in the Community Sports and Competitions program, dropping from 45.8% to 39.4% of the total, as well as an increase in transfers to national public entities, from 2.7% to 5.8%. Furthermore, there is a slight increase in ENARD, as a result of the decline in other programs.
The report presented by Táctica also highlights that the treatment of Argentine sports should be unique, given the fundamental role that community clubs play in sports and social training. It is noted that sports policy is overshadowed by debates about Sports Anonymous Societies (SAD) and the possible arrival of Formula 1 in 2026/27.
