Javier Milei Defends Cryptocurrency Actions Amid Controversy

President Javier Milei admitted today to having responsibility in the scandal of the cryptocurrency Libra, and stated that it is necessary to "raise filters" and "put up walls" to make it less accessible. He assured that he did not "promote" the investment fund, but only "disseminated" it.

Regarding the scandal, Milei stated: "They knew very well what they were getting into; they are operators of volatility." He also added: "If you go to the casino and lose money, you knew that could happen." He emphasized that he had not promoted the investment in Libra, but had simply disseminated it.

The president pointed out that, due to the situation, it will be necessary to establish stricter measures to access these types of investments. Regarding the economic outlook, he expressed optimism, predicting a 7% growth and a 1% inflation rate. He warned that if the current government does well, those involved in the scandal will not return.

About the cryptocurrency Libra, he revealed that developer Hayden Davis proposed creating a funding structure for entrepreneurs who cannot access through traditional means, and that he only took care of disseminating the proposal through his social media.

Milei also clarified that the number of people affected by the fall of Libra was not 44,000 as claimed, but at most 5,000, all of whom were experienced investors in this type of financial instruments. He stressed the need to learn from this experience, stating that he assumed the presidency while staying true to his style and accessibility as always.

Additionally, the president lashed out at traditional politics, asserting that the opposition parties are nervous due to unfavorable polls and the ongoing economic recovery.
