The National Gas Regulatory Entity (Enargas) is holding a public hearing on Thursday, February 6, to discuss the new prices for gas transportation and distribution tariffs, as well as the methodology for future periodic adjustments. The meeting, which includes the national agency, service provider companies, and the public, started at 9:00 AM and is taking place virtually, as has been the norm in recent times.
As part of the current tariff review procedure being conducted by Enargas, the hearing covers all licensed Gas Transportation and Distribution companies across the country. The debate addresses the Five-Year Tariff Review and the methodology for periodic tariff adjustments, as well as the modification of the distribution service regulations regarding interruptions due to non-payment.
In previously submitted proposals for the hearing, the companies seek a 45% tariff increase, reflecting a 15% impact on users' bills. They also suggest a scheme for monthly increases to ensure revenue against inflation and finance investments.
On the other hand, the Government intends to limit tariff increases to a final 9.9% for users. If this position is imposed, it is likely that the companies' proposals will be rejected and their investment plans will need to be adjusted to lower revenues.
