President Javier Milei expressed his satisfaction with a private report indicating an improvement in economic activity in December 2024. On his social media, the head of state celebrated the news, highlighting the advancement of freedom and progress in the country.
The report from the Orlando Ferreres consulting firm, disseminated by journalist Jonatan Viale, revealed that economic activity experienced a year-on-year growth of 4.6% in December 2024, with a contraction of 2.9% throughout the year. In addition, there was a 1.3% increase in seasonally adjusted measurements compared to the previous month.
According to the analysis, the activity estimator showed strong progress in December, reversing the annual contraction positively, although it was noted that part of this progress is due to the low comparison base with the same period in 2023. The improvement was also reflected in the seasonally adjusted series, which showed one of the most significant monthly increases of the year.
Regarding economic sectors, the rebound in trade, driven by the wholesale sector, and financial intermediation stood out. On the other hand, construction continued to show difficulties and closed a challenging year.
The fourth quarter of last year showed a growth of 2.3% compared to the previous quarter, in non-seasonally adjusted terms. In this regard, good prospects are projected for the current year, with the recovery of wages stimulating private consumption and a greater macroeconomic order promising to incentivize new opportunities for productive investment, according to OJF.
