Mercado Libre Criticizes Tax Increase

The e-commerce platform Mercado Libre issued a statement titled "ENOUGH WITH GROSS INCOME!" warning about the negative impact that the recent increase in provincial Gross Income tax has on consumers and SMEs. According to the company founded by Marcos Galperin, this tax raises the prices of products and services, affects family budgets, and jeopardizes thousands of local businesses, which are fundamental to the economy.

Mercado Libre points out that the Gross Income tax is unfair because it is applied to the total invoiced, not on profits, which creates a cascading effect that increases costs at every stage of production and distribution, raising prices for consumers. Additionally, it argues that the management of this tax represents an unnecessary and costly administrative burden for businesses, hindering their development and growth.

The e-commerce company highlights that the recent increase in the Gross Income tax in provinces like Santa Fe directly impacts consumers and SMEs, and calls for prioritizing families, SMEs, and producers by reducing the tax burden and promoting economic development instead of obstructing it.

In a critical tone, Mercado Libre considers that at a time when the country needs to move towards a simpler and fairer tax system, increasing distorting taxes represents a serious mistake that affects Argentines who participate in production, trade, and consumption. The company maintains that these harmful measures always fall on citizens, emphasizing the importance of promoting tax policies that foster economic growth and benefit society as a whole.
