Hearing on Nullity of Charges Against Uspallata Activists

In the context of the case against residents of Uspallata, a hearing on the nullity of the charges was held today. This hearing has been requested for the past five months and postponed several times. The defense lawyer, Alfredo Guevara, presented numerous arguments to request the nullity of the accusation, emphasizing the prosecutor's refusal to merge this case with the complaint filed by Flavio González for serious injuries caused by the UOCRA gang. This incident occurred at the same time, place, and under the same circumstances. Guevara highlighted that the only injured parties who verified injuries are assembly members beaten by the UOCRA gang, brought to Uspallata by the government and mining companies. It was reiterated that the only evidence, besides the prosecutor's claims, is the testimony of witness Daniel Fernández, who accused Mauricio Cornejo and Federico Soria of threats and inciting violence, offering WhatsApp chats that do not support the accusation. Guevara emphasized the arbitrary nature of the case and the prosecutor's omissions in building a false accusation. In January of this year, a UOCRA gang violently attacked a peaceful protest by residents opposing the installation of the Mining Suppliers Chamber's office in the town.
