Giovana Sosa, a 20-year-old girl, was murdered in a hotel in Tigre by her partner Tiziano Fiz. Days before the crime, Giovana had reported on her social media the ordeal of psychological, verbal, and physical abuse she was suffering from Tiziano. Her family shared the messages that the girl had posted, detailing the violence she was experiencing.
Juana Sosa, Giovana's cousin, expressed her outrage: 'Did they have to wait until she was killed to do things the right way?' She also mentioned that Giovana had shared her situation on social media and had asked for help. In her stories, the victim described the mistreatment she was being subjected to.
Juana continued her demands on social media: 'I’m tired of you,' she wrote. After showing the violence suffered, the victim's cousin questioned the lack of action from the authorities: 'How can it be that the country continues in the same way we are?' she expressed. Despite the warning signs that Giovana had communicated, no formal complaint had been filed against Tiziano.
Giovana's family demanded justice and that the murderer remain behind bars. It was revealed that Tiziano had a history of violence in the past. 'The murderer has to rot in prison, no more, no less. How many more women are they going to keep killing?' Juana stated. Giovana's tragic death highlights the importance of paying attention to signs of gender violence and acting in time to avoid fatal consequences.
