Zamora Highlights the Tax Burden for Municipalities

After the crisis of 2001, local governments have acquired more powers that require resources, leading to the creation of different types of rates. Julio Zamora, mayor of Tigre, emphasized on the program 'El Repaso' of Radio Provincia the heavy tax burden imposed by the national government on municipalities. He highlighted that municipal governments are the first point of contact for the community and expressed the need to review the rates and taxes that each jurisdiction charges.

Zamora also pointed out that municipal administrations have recently had to take charge of public works, health, and public safety that have not been fulfilled by the national executive. Regarding the percentage of taxes that go to the Nation, the communal leader mentioned that between 2% and 3% corresponds to what is collected by municipalities, which can only impose direct taxes.

In a context of economic adversity for many families, the Municipality of Tigre provides assistance in various areas and responds to social demands with its own resources. Zamora emphasized the importance of establishing dialogues and reviews on tax policies, avoiding confrontations with the national government, but highlighting the lack of debate spaces that generates tension.
