Former Argentine President calls for safe goalposts after child's death

Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri has called on the Argentine Football Association (AFA), clubs, and sports federations to ensure that goalposts are securely anchored on all pitches. This call came after the death of 9-year-old Benicio Farji, who died in an accident at a handball court in Quilmes. 'I invite the AFA, the clubs, and the professional and amateur federations of all sports to commit to guaranteeing secure anchors in the goals of all pitches and in all circumstances, following international safety standards,' Macri wrote on social media. The former president also asked coaches, school principals, technical staff, referees, and parents to personally check that the goals at their clubs or at the clubs they visit are securely anchored. 'Falling goalposts are repeated in other parts of the world. This cannot happen anymore,' Macri stated, expressing his 'support' for Benicio's family. 'No one should delegate the verification of safety to others,' he added. According to Macri, there was another similar case just over a month ago with the death of an 11-year-old boy, and before that, there were six more cases in Argentina.
