The Gimnasia team achieved a 1-0 victory over Deportivo Español in a Copa Argentina match held at the Centenario Ciudad de Quilmes Stadium. With this result, Gimnasia advanced to the round of 32 of the tournament.
The only goal of the match was scored by Rodrigo Castillo, six minutes into the second half. This win allowed the team to break a streak of six consecutive matches without a win and will now face the winner of the match between Sarmiento and Central Córdoba from Rosario in the next phase.
Regarding their performance in the Apertura Tournament of the Professional Football League, Gimnasia has had a tough start with three defeats in the first three matches. The next challenge for the team led by Fernando Zaniratto will be against Godoy Cruz, on Sunday at 7:15 PM.
Despite being considered superior to Deportivo Español, Gimnasia faced difficulties in the first half of the match, and their goalkeeper Nelson Insfrán had to intervene to keep the score nil-nil until halftime. It was in the second half when Castillo managed to deflect the ball into the net, thus opening the scoring in favor of Gimnasia.
From that moment on, the team from La Plata took control of the match, although they could not extend their lead against a rival that remained determined to equalize until the end.
