Police Officer Survives Attack in Quilmes

During the early morning hours today in the Villa Itatí settlement of Quilmes, a police officer was involved in an armed confrontation during a family dispute. The officer managed to avoid serious injuries thanks to wearing a helmet that stopped a bullet fired by an armed man. The aggressor, in turn, was injured in the torso, leg, and hand while exchanging gunfire with the police, although his injuries are not life-threatening.

After receiving medical attention and being discharged, the aggressor was taken to a police station to be placed in custody. Meanwhile, the police officer who was hit in the helmet was initially taken to the Don Bosco emergency room and then transferred to the Iriarte Hospital, also under police custody, to receive specialized care.

The shooting occurred after the police were alerted by a 911 call about a conflict in a house on Chaco Street. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers encountered a man who reported being assaulted by his son, who threatened him with a firearm before fleeing across the rooftops. The officers were able to apprehend the aggressor, who was charged with "Aggravated use of a weapon, assault, and resisting authority."

The prosecutor in charge of the case, Karina Gallo, from UFI No. 4 of Quilmes, supported the actions of the officers and ordered the seizure of the firearm used, as well as the necessary forensic examinations. Fortunately, the rest of the police personnel emerged unscathed from the incident.
