A sophisticated digital scam using the image and voice of former presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, generated through Artificial Intelligence (AI), has caused a multi-million dollar financial impact in Paraná, Entre Ríos.
The scam is promoted through deepfake videos circulating as advertising on social media and YouTube, redirecting to websites that mimic official YPF pages.
The victim stated they voluntarily joined the scheme in July, tempted by a promise of "very high profitability with very little risk." The operation began with an initial investment of $200, which generated immediate but false returns. From there, the investor was contacted by "managers"—all with a "Caribbean accent"—who guided them through a "spiral of money transactions" to different accounts.
One victim lost a total of $46,000,000 after falling for a supposed investment scam in the state-owned oil company YPF.
According to Agencia Noticias Argentinas, a complaint was filed with the local police, and the local outlet AHORA revealed the details of the modus operandi.
The victim was reeled back into the system after a month of silence, when a new call promised an "exorbitant" amount to be collected, pushing them to make more deposits.
