Three people were detained in the city of Oberá, Misiones province, after crashing into a National Gendarmer checkpoint and attempting to flee with 5,000 packs of foreign cigarettes and an unregistered firearm. According to information received by the Argentine News Agency (NA) from the National Gendarmerie, the detainees were traveling in several vehicles when they advanced against a checkpoint located on Provincial Route No. 7, near Aristóbulo del Valle. They ignored the stop signals and fled at high speed. Following the maneuver, law enforcement personnel launched a pursuit operation, which led to locating one of the vehicles abandoned on National Route No. 14, while another was intercepted within the urban area of the locality. During a search of the detained vehicle, officials found 5,000 packs of foreign cigarettes without customs documentation, as well as a firearm without the corresponding papers, which aggravated the procedural situation of those involved. The three detainees, all of legal age, are at the disposal of the Federal Court and the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Oberá, which ordered the seizure of the merchandise, the firearm, and the vehicles used, in the framework of a case for smuggling and resistance to authority, in violation of Customs Law No. 22.415.
