Argentina Increases Reward for Missing Young Man

The Ministry of Security has increased the reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Sergio Daniel Ávalos, the young man who disappeared in June 2003 after leaving a nightclub in Neuquén and has not been heard from since.

Ávalos was last seen in the early hours of June 14, 2003, inside the nightclub 'El Fuerte', located in the city of Neuquén, where he had gone with friends.

'The payment of the reward will be made at this Ministry or at the place designated by the representative of this state portfolio, prior to a report from the intervening authority representative on the merit of the information provided in order to preserve the identity of the contributor,' highlights the report accessed by the Argentine News Agency.

The young man has the following physical characteristics: small build, 1.60 meters tall, with a slight disability from a humerus injury that prevents him from fully extending his left arm, short black hair, tan skin, a round face, and brown eyes.

Currently, there are 19 accused individuals in the case. These include nightclub security personnel, as well as police officers and the owners of the establishment. Despite 22 years having passed, they were only formally charged last July, under the main hypothesis that the victim was detained inside the nightclub and has been hidden to this day.

At that time, he was wearing a brown fleece jacket and gray jeans, according to Resolution 1369/2025.

Due to the lack of information about the young man, who would now be 40 years old, Federal Court No. 2 of Neuquén, presided over by Gustavo Eduardo Villanueva, with the intervention of Secretariat No. 1, requested the Ministry to increase the reward amount via a letter dated September 3, 2025.

In 2023, a reward of 4 million pesos was offered within the territory of the Argentine Republic for those persons, who, not having participated in the criminal act, provide useful information that helps to find Ávalos. Following the request, the security portfolio, headed by Alejandra Susana Monteoliva, decided to raise the amount to 5 million pesos for anyone who provides concrete evidence in the case.
