The verdict against the singer Elián Valenzuela, better known as L-Gante, will be announced this Monday at noon on the final day of the oral trial being held in the courts of Mercedes. Valenzuela is accused of "unlawful deprivation of liberty, aggravated by the use of firearms," for which the case prosecutor, Adrián Landini, requested 7 years in prison. The complaint was filed by residents of General Rodríguez and led to Valenzuela being detained for almost 100 days.
The lawsuit, led by lawyers Darío Gastón Torres and Rosa Passi along with other plaintiffs, requested eight and three years in prison for the Cumbia 420 representative. Meanwhile, L-Gante will try to be acquitted through his lawyer, Luciano Locatelli. Judge Ignacio Racca, president of the court of Mercedes, will be in charge of reading the resolution in a complex criminal situation.
If sentenced to 7 years, it would be served effectively. However, the musician's hopes of avoiding prison are high if the magistrate accepts the prosecutor's request not to charge Daniel Emanuel "Muelita" De Marco, a friend of Valenzuela, with unlawful deprivation of liberty. There are possibilities that this may happen, which could result in a suspended sentence for L-Gante, less than three years.
Despite not being directly involved in a gang confrontation, testimonies collected by investigators indicated that L-Gante, after learning about the conflict, went looking for Torres, a neighbor from the Bicentenario neighborhood of General Rodríguez. According to the accusation, "the musician took the municipal employee, pointed a gun at him, forced him to get into his car, and took him away" along with Passi.
In the hearing on this Monday, L-Gante's fate in this case will be determined, which could lead to different criminal scenarios depending on the judge's resolution.
