Increase in Insecurity in Mendoza Demands Action

Provincial legislator of the PRO, Gabriel Pradines, expressed his concern about a report that places Mendoza as one of the most insecure provinces in the country. According to Pradines, the data is 'overwhelming' and reflects a worrying reality for the people of Mendoza, with an increase in property crimes, victims in harmful situations, sexual integrity crimes, robberies, thefts, and a homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants that has worsened. Pradines held Governor Alfredo Cornejo's administration responsible for the lack of crime prevention, emphasizing that security 'entirely depends on the management of the government that controls the police forces.' He compared the current administration with the previous Peronist one, highlighting the decrease in police personnel in the province. According to the legislator, during the handover between governors, Mendoza has gone from having approximately 12,500 police officers to fewer than 9,000 in over 10 years. 'Security is worse than what Paco PĂ©rez had,' stated Pradines. The Minister of Security of Mendoza, Mercedes Rus, questioned the validity of the report, while Pradines urged to make the problem of insecurity in the province visible and called for a debate of proposals and better management in security matters.
