A 72-year-old retiree in the Buenos Aires town of Llavallol, in the Lomas de Zamora party, shot and killed a criminal who, along with two accomplices, attempted to rob his house, according to police reports. The incident took place during the early morning when the three criminals forced the gate of the house on Machado de Asís Street at 600 and entered the home with their faces covered.
The retiree, who was resting on the first floor, heard his wife's screams as she was being assaulted by the criminals and went to her aid armed with a .38 caliber revolver. In a confrontation inside the house, the retiree shot one of the thieves in the chest, who died on the spot. The deceased criminal was armed with a 9mm Bersa pistol and managed to fire shots at the elderly man, but did not injure him.
At the crime scene, police found evidence of seven shots fired, three of which matched the weapon of the deceased thief. The three criminals were hooded and wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints, suggesting that the robbery was premeditated and part of the criminal group's modus operandi.
Witness testimony from neighbors and security camera footage revealed that a fourth accomplice was waiting in a Volkswagen Gol car on the street and they all fled the scene together after the shooting. The investigation of the case is being led by Lomas de Zamora’s Prosecutor 4, Silvina Estévez, who is considering the possibility of self-defense in this incident, which is why the retiree was not arrested, with the participation of the Llavallol Police Department.
Neighbor's testimony: "It’s a very sad situation, but the man did what he could to protect his family. It's unfortunate that it had to come to that extreme, but one never knows how they would react in such a situation."
Neighbor's testimony: "He is an elderly man, it’s a shame that he had to face such a violent situation. I hope he receives the necessary support after experiencing something like this."
