The municipality of Ituzaingó has begun construction of an underground parking lot under the February 20 Plaza in the historic center. This is a project that Mayor Pablo Descalzo defined as “the most important in the last ten years” to modernize the district. The project provides for 370 to 400 parking spaces, accessible ramps, and a complete renovation of the green space. According to the Argentine News Agency, the official objective is to organize traffic around the train station and the shopping center, where the growth of the vehicle fleet has caused street congestion and conflicts over parking. The work is financed with municipal funds and will be complemented by more trees, new urban furniture, LED lighting, and specific areas for fairs and cultural activities, which will be temporarily relocated during the work. According to local sources, the work will take about two years, and the plaza will remain closed in stages. The Executive ensures that there will be no detours for public transport and that the children's games and the carousel will be relocated to maintain recreational activity while the work is carried out.
