Racing Coach Criticizes Referee After Controversial Match

Racing's coach, Gustavo Costas, expressed his discontent over the lack of a penalty in favor of his team in the match against San Lorenzo. Costas stated, "I don't like losing anything, especially the classics. We came from achieving something very important and the boys gave their all. I don't know why it wasn't called. I didn't see it on the field, but later I could see it was a 'clear penalty'." Despite this situation, the coach affirmed the desire to qualify for the round of 16 and fight for everything in the Apertura Tournament.

Costas emphasized that Racing aims to be among the top eight in the championship, despite currently being in a tenth position. He underscored: "The goal is to qualify definitely among the eight, and we want to win all the matches. I didn't think we could manage to tie it up." The coach also acknowledged the superiority of the opposing team for much of the match, even though Racing managed to turn the score around and take the lead.

The coach pointed out that Racing needs to play impeccably to win matches and lamented the team's difficulty in closing out games. Costas urged the team to lift their heads and prepare for the upcoming confrontations, especially against Huracán and Independiente. Although he complained about the lack of a penalty in the area on Matías Zaracho that he believed should have been called, he acknowledged that the defeat was not solely due to that action, but also to the performance of the rival team.

In his criticism of the refereeing, Costas described the situation as a "shame" and mentioned feeling great frustration over the loss. The coach assured that Racing will continue to work hard to achieve their goals in the tournament. He emphasized: "You will never see VAR with us; it is suspended. It rained yesterday, and we worked anyway. I’m not one to make excuses. I have a huge anger over having lost."
