Argentinian Referees Nominated for Best Referee Award

Argentinian referees Darío Herrera and Facundo Tello have been nominated for the IFFHS award for Best Referee in the World. The awards will be held in January, showcasing top referees from various nations.


Argentinian Referees Nominated for Best Referee Award

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has nominated Argentine referees Darío Herrera and Facundo Tello for the "Best Referee in the World" award. Alongside Herrera and Tello, three South American referees have also been nominated: Rafael Claus and Wilton Sampaio from Brazil, and Andrés Matonte from Uruguay. On the other hand, Arturo Ramos from Mexico and Iván Barton from El Salvador represent the rest of Latin America in this nomination.

The award ceremony for the Best Referee in the World is scheduled for two months from now, in January, according to the federation itself. The last recipient of this distinction was Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who officiated the World Cup final in Qatar 2022 between Argentina and France. The complete list of nominated referees includes François Letexier (France), Felix Zwayer (Germany), Slavko Vinčić (Slovenia), Clément Turpin (France), Daniele Orsato (Italy), Michael Oliver (England), Anthony Taylor (England), Szymon Marciniak (Poland), István Kovács (Romania), and other distinguished professionals from around the world, including referees from China, Mauritania, Algeria, and the Solomon Islands.
