Leandro Brey Becomes Boca Hero in the Argentine Cup

Goalkeeper Leandro Brey was the heroic figure in the penalty shootout between Boca and Gimnasia. After a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Brey stopped four penalty shots, allowing the 'Xeneize' to qualify for the semifinals of the Copa Argentina.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper had the chance to secure the starting position for Boca's goal and did so with flying colors. He saved four out of five penalties and ensured advancement to the next round for his team.

In a memorable performance, Leandro Brey stopped the shot from Rodrigo Castillo, the first penalty, which was placed towards his left post but lacked sufficient power. Then, against Franco Troyansky, Brey showed excellent reflexes by seeing the direction of the shot to the center of the goal and reaching with his feet and hands extended, despite having chosen his left post.

In his third consecutive penalty, the goalkeeper managed to stop Leonardo Morales' shot, again towards his left post but this time at mid-height. After Milton Giménez's miss, the series was left in Brey's hands, and he did not miss the opportunity.

Gimnasia's winger, David Zalazar, chose to place the ball near the goalkeeper's right post by opening his foot, but Brey guessed the direction and secured the qualification on a historic night.
