During the halftime of the quarter-final match of the Argentine Cup between Boca and Gimnasia, the fans of both teams were involved in disturbances that required police intervention. The police inside the Marcelo Bielsa stadium had to use rubber bullets to contain the clashes between the two factions of fans.
Following the tension generated, prominent members of Boca's Football Council, including the president of the institution Juan Román Riquelme, decided to leave the boxes where they were watching the match to calm down the xeneize supporters present in the stadium.
One of the leaders expressed: "It's important to maintain calm and enjoy football in peace. Violent actions have no place in our sport and it's essential that we all understand this".
The incident, which took place during a major sporting event, has raised concerns in the football community and underscores the need to effectively prevent and address such situations in the future.
