Argentine defender Cristian 'Cuti' Romero was unable to continue the match in Tottenham's 1-0 defeat to Sunderland due to a heavy collision that left him down on the pitch. The Argentine went to challenge for the ball in the opposition's penalty area, and after a push from Brian Brobbey and a subsequent clash with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský, he could not get up and left the field crying, assisted by medical staff. The Argentine defender managed to get up on his own but when he tried to continue, he showed discomfort in his right leg that prevented him from doing so. Even without being able to leave the field on his own, he asked for a substitution and visibly affected left the pitch so that Kevin Danso could come on in his place. The scene caused great concern in the national team, not only because of the possible severity of the blow, which would have been to the knee area, but also because of the timing on the calendar: there are only a few days left for the presentation of the final list for the next World Cup. The situation adds to another recent setback: Emiliano 'Dibu' Martínez felt discomfort during the warm-up in the match between Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, also in the Premier League, and could not be part of the match. Additionally, in recent days it was confirmed that Lautaro Martínez re-injured a muscle tear at Inter, after making a comeback with two goals against Roma in Serie A.
