Argentine Federico Coria receives wildcard for Argentina Open

Argentine tennis player Federico Coria received a wildcard for the main draw of the Argentina Open, where he reached the semifinals in 2024. The news was confirmed this Friday through the official Argentina Open social media account: "La Mojarra al main draw. Federico Coria is present in the main draw of the tournament by invitation." However, the 33-year-old player, currently ranked ATP 312, missed most of 2025 due to physical problems. In August, he underwent surgery on his right elbow with the aim of returning to the highest level of competition. His last official match was in early August last year, when he fell in the round of 16 of the Challenger in Bonn (Germany) against Austrian Joel Schwärzler. Coria's best performance at the Argentina Open was in 2024, when he reached the semifinals after his victories over Austrian Sebastian Ofner, Briton Cameron Norrie, and his compatriot Sebastián Báez. In that same semifinal, Argentine Facundo Díaz Acosta, who would go on to become champion, easily defeated him and ended his dream of reaching the final. After Coria's wildcard, there will be at least 10 Argentines in the main draw. The others will be the Francisco and Juan Manuel Cerúndolo brothers, Sebastián Báez, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Tomás Etcheverry, Mariano Navone, Francisco Comesaña, Román Andrés Burruchaga, and Facundo Díaz Acosta (the latter received a wildcard on Thursday night). Additionally, three other national representatives could join them, as Alex Barrena, Lautaro Midón, and Bautista Torres will compete in the qualifying rounds. Action at the Argentina Open will begin this Saturday with the first round of qualifying matches, while the main draw matches will start on Monday.
