Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (NA) – Argentine skier Tiziano Gravier, son of renowned model Valeria Mazza, will represent the country at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy. According to the Argentine News Agency, the 23-year-old athlete will be one of three representatives Argentina will have in the alpine skiing discipline, alongside Nicole Begué and Francesca Baruzzi, who will compete in the women's category. Like Baruzzi and Begué, Gravier will participate this Saturday morning in the men's alpine skiing downhill final, where he will seek to win Argentina's first medal in the history of this winter multisport event. In this edition held in Italy, alpine skiing will be divided into speed and technical events, with completely different demands for the athletes. In January of this year, he achieved his first World Cup podium in the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, also in Italy. Among the speed events, downhill and super-G stand out, which are run in a single round and usually take about a minute and a half to complete, with gates set very far apart, allowing for the highest speeds in the discipline. In both cases, the winner is the one with the best total time, and competitors perform timed training runs beforehand to find the ideal course before race day. Gravier made his professional debut in 2018 in a giant slalom race in El Colorado, Chile, at just 16 years old, and two years later, he was selected to compete in the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. At that competition, the skier finished seventh in the men's super-G and fifteenth in the slalom. In 2021, he debuted at a World Championship, in the Cortina d'Ampezzo edition, Italy, and achieved a notable 25th place.
